Volunteer Information

Please note: Safety is the top priority on the Boat, but accidents can happen. We do have liability insurance, but we do not have medical coverage. Therefore, all volunteers must have their own medical insurance. Please do not volunteer if you do not have medical coverage.

Welcome aboard, volunteer!

A typical day starts around 9:30 AM and ends early afternoon. The goal is for it to be an enjoyable, as well as productive day. As mentioned above, safety is the most important element. We do not go out in bad weather, and we immediately head home if there are any threatening signs. The boat works best with a crew of 2-3 volunteers and a Captain.

Pick up: We normally pick up volunteers at the DCR Nonantum Road boat ramp in Newton (see map below). Turn into the new Community Rowing Boat House parking lot. The entrance to the boat ramp is through the Community Rowing Boat house parking lot. There is ample parking in the lot the boat ramp shares with Community Rowing. While the boat ramp is our usual pick up spot, we can also pick people up along the Charles River if it is more convenient. 

 

Lunch: We normally stop at the Cambridgeside Galleria food court for lunch; however, you are also welcome to bring your own lunch. 

 

What to wear: Dress for the outdoors! We recommend you bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and rain gear. It takes about 50 minutes to get back from the basin so it's best to be prepared in the event of a surprise rainfall.
